What implications does Genesis 1 have for the mode of which God created mankind. We have Christians on all different aspects of this crying that their interpretations of Genesis 1 is the fundamental view, the one which God intended.
On one hand, we have YEC's (Ken Ham, Kurt Wise, etc) that claim that the universe was created in 6 literal days. This view is believed by nearly 42% of the American population but has been almost virtually dismissed by scientists and has been very labeled dubious by biblical scholars and theologians.
Then we have OEC's (Hugh Ross, for example) who still hold to a model of Special Creation, though they view the "days" as metaphorical.
Leaving ID out of the question, there are many who hold to creation through evolutionary process (Francis Collins, Kenneth Miller, John Polkinghorne, etc.).
What is Genesis getting at? Can evolution be reconciled with Genesis or does the language, for some reason, rule out an evolutionary mode of creation?
Thoughts?
